I read this book very quickly marking and underlining as I read. My 15 yr. old son is a type one diabetic with developmental delays. To my surprise, this book dealt with these issues! We started using the alarm in July, 2011. He has been consistantly dry for 23 nights in a row. The last nine nights we have used the alarm every other night while staying dry each night. We have 5 nights to go before we will not need to use the alarm any more. It has been so wonderful not to change sheets in the middle of the night. He is waking ON HIS OWN to use the bathroom when needed at night. I learned so many facts and details as to why my son was a bedwetter. I would never have understood all that I do now without this book.

As a Family Physician, I have recommended the potty alarms to children with enuresis for many years. Now I have a child with enuresis, and I would have had NO IDEA what to really expect before reading this book. It's very practical and easy to read. It's easy to implement the suggestions. A nice nightly progress chart is even included. We're not done yet but well on our way.

Oh my goodness! My 8 year old son was starting to really suffer psychologically from his bedwetting. He had become aware of the stigma attached and I could see his self confidance falling (2nd graders are tougher than I ever would have thought). On the recommendation of his Pediatrician and his own readiness to try something, we tried it. The first few nights were AWFUL! The alarm is loud and very disturbing. He was panicking, I was panicking, I wasn't falling back asleep b/c my body was pumped full of adrenaline and panicking that the alarm would go off again...(we are noise sensitive)...then all of a sudden, he went down to 1 episode at night, then one night he had a dream of being in a swimming pool and not being able to get out (that was a wonderful chance to tell him that it was working and his brain was trying to wake him up). THE REALLY GOOD NEWS is that 3 weeks later, he has had 4 DRY NIGHTS!!!! He is even waking up to go to the bathroom on his own! and his self confidance has jumped back up to where it had been and even beyond! He is so happy, I am so happy... Another plus is he is waking up more rested than before! The downsides are that we both started blocking out the one alarm and we needed to switch to one of the noisier sounds. I am glad I chose the changeable model with vibration...we needed to be able to change sounds and even be able to choose which alarm to set it to...I played them and he decided which was too scary and which might be just right! another downside is that it really was disturbing at night and took all my parenting skills to remain calm, upbeat, positive... I am just so happy with this and so amazed that it really does work!!!

Definitely buy this book if you are going to be using a bedwetting alarm. It walks you through the steps in order to achieve dryness quickly. It also includes weekly progress charts which were instrumental in keeping track of progress and encouraging the child. My 6-year-old son was dry after only 4 nights!

Purchased this book along with an alarm for our 5 year old boy, who had never had a dry night! We have been following the steps for 3 weeks now and we have had 2 totally dry nights, and he has been doing wonderful with the help of the alarm. He is also very proud of himself and happy to be wearing underwear to bed. I am so happy that I purchased this book and alarm.

PROS

  • Easy to read not boring
  • Clear Instructions
  • Lots of good ideas

Comments:

I purchased the book after my son used the alarm for four months and was still having trouble. I wish I had it from the beginning, I think it would have helped us greatly. I found most interesting the food suggestions. Our doctor didn't discuss these at all. My son is the biggest milk drinker in the world and after dinner, frequently eats cheese or yogurt to fill himself up. Now I learn that so much dairy can impact his ability to stay dry! Get the book at the beginning, it may save you some headaches and heartaches.

Comments:

My daughter will be 6 next month and had never had a dry night. She was very motivated to learn so after researching, we decided to purchase the alarm and book combo. Last night was the 14th night to use the alarm and her very 1st dry night! The book provides great detail about enuresis: from physiology of the urinary system to the causes and myths. The steps to take when you begin are helpful along with the progress charts to track specifics.

PROS

  • Explains causes
  • Nice tracking chart
  • Troubleshooting section

CONS

  • Finding the time to read

BEST USES

  • Before using alarm

Comments:

Very organized and informative. Explains causes of bedwetting. Compares pros and cons of several different alarm systems (aids in selection). Tracking chart at the end of the book is better than what comes with the Malem alarm system. Troubleshooting section is nice. More in depth information about how to start and when to finish using the alarm than what comes with the Malem alarm. Read it before I started using the alarm for our 6 yr. old son. Found the information very helpful. (The alarm works, too! It is our third week and our son has been dry sleeping through the night for 8 consecutive days. He never even had 8 nights in total dry in his entire life. He is so proud of himself. That is the best.)

I read this book from cover to cover to better understand my 8 year old daughter's bedwetting problem. It brought to light a lot I didn't know about bedwetting and gave both my daughter and I the freedom we needed to conquer this problem. I'm grateful for what this has done for our family.

Before spending $2500.00 on an agency to help you, read what Nurse Mercer has to say. The steps laid out in this[$] book are the same methods used by the agencies charging thousands of dollars. The book provides immediate help while the agency requires you do mail in your data and wait for them to send you the next step to try. My child was completely dry within two months after 15 years of wetting. Thanks Nurse Mercer!
